Obituary of Althea Laramee

Althea Marie (Landry) Laramee, 88, of Sun City Center, FL, passed away peacefully at Sun Towers near her home of twenty-nine years in the Kings Point Retirement Community. She was born August 14, 1932, in Pawtucket, RI.

 

Althea was the daughter of Edna A. (Tomlinson) Landry and Frederick L. Landry and was married on January 3, 1953, in Pawtucket, RI to Raymond A. Laramee, also of Pawtucket. She was the sister to Joseph P. Landry of Ft. Myers, FL, Mary Paula Adler of Brentwood, CA, Celine Turgeon of Pawtucket, RI, Margaret Melillo of Naples, FL and Methuen, MA, George E. Landry of Wilson, NC, the late Thomas Landry, the late Leonard Landry, the late Daniel Landry, the late Bernice Veneziano and the late Dorothy Graham.

 

She is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, Raymond A. Laramee of Sun City center, FL (both long-time residents of Pawtucket, RI), also children, Sandra D Laramee of Lutz, FL, Diane M. Chirchirillo of Sun City Center, FL, Susan J. Giglio of Pawtucket, RI, Mary A. Salvas of Cumberland, RI, Robert J. Laramee of E. Greenwich, RI and Jeanne F. Schmidt of Smithfield, NC, 11 grandchildren, 21 Great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Althea graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy of Providence, RI. She worked at Korples Rosary Company and Oakhill Nursing Home in Pawtucket, but her most critical employment was as homemaker and volunteer in support of her 6 children. As a life member of the Daughters of Isabella, Pawtucket Circle #32, she served as Regent for several years, as Secretary for the State Circle for two years, and member of the Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed crafts, primarily plastic canvas.

 

Her contributions to the Gloucester D Association were noteworthy, serving as Vice President and President of the Gloucester D Association for 10 years and then as Director. She also volunteered as receptionist for Samaritan Services for three years and assisted neighbors through Life Line for Doctor Visits.

 

Her favorite saints are St. Francis and Our Lady of Fatima.
